My Opinion

For

Hobbii Alpaca Soft lives up to its name—it truly is soft! Working with this yarn feels a lot like crocheting with clouds. I am quite sure Hobbii have mastered the art of cloud harvesting. This makes it an excellent choice for cozy projects like scarves, hats, and shawls. The brushed alpaca gives your finished items a slight halo, adding to the whole luxury vibe.

Yes, it’s soft, but the added nylon blend gives it strength and durability. This makes it a good option for items that need a bit of resilience, like sweaters or even home décor. It’s lightweight yet warm, which makes it ideal for layering or crafting items for cooler months.

I’ve worked with Soft Alpaca on a couple of projects, the latest being my Winter Enchantress Neck Warmer pattern. The brushed texture of the yarn worked beautifully for this project, resulting in a unique neck warmer that is lightweight, warm, and an elegant accessory that’s both stylish and functional.

The 50g balls make it easy to purchase just the right amount of yarn without too much waste. The yardage per skein is reasonable, and the light DK weight makes it versatile for a range of patterns.

The color range is extensive enough to offer a choice of classic neutrals and soft pastel shades. The solid color transition ensures consistency throughout the project.

I loved working with Hobbii Alpaca Soft. It glides on the hook or needles smoothly, and the halo effect adds that extra pizzazz to the finished item.

Against

Let’s talk about some potential downsides—remember, these are personal observations that may not be a deal-breaker for everyone!

First, the brushed texture can be tricky for beginners, especially if frogging (undoing stitches) is necessary. The fibers tend to catch on themselves, so it’s best to work carefully and confidently.

Second, while the yarn is soft and luxurious, it may not have the stitch definition you’d expect from a plied yarn. This means it’s better suited for simpler stitches rather than intricate lace or textured patterns.

Another thing to consider is the size of the skein. While 50g balls are manageable, they do mean you’ll need more skeins for larger projects. This might make it slightly less economical than other yarns of similar quality and weight.

While this yarn is worth every dollar, it is a luxury yarn. This means it is slightly less affordable if you’re on a budget.

Overall

I will absolutely work with this yarn again.

Hobbii Alpaca Soft is a yarn that will spoil you for working with other yarns. I would be happy to recommend it for accessories, lightweight garments, and cozy items where softness and warmth are priorities.

If you’ve never tried a brushed alpaca blend before, this yarn is a great introduction—but be prepared to get hooked! And don’t forget to check out my Winter Enchantress Neck Warmer pattern for the perfect project to showcase this yarn’s soft, magical qualities.
