Heirloom crochet blankets
It was time for another roundup and I wanted this one to be really special. I searched through hundreds of pattern photographs to select what I would choose as a family heirloom.
What is an heirloom?
According to Cambridge Dictionary an heirloom is a valuable object that has been given by older members of a family to younger members of the same family over many years.
Blankets that have been lovingly made and handed on, have been a tradition in many families and I wanted to showcase some that I have selected that I would happily pass on to family in the hope they will become just that, a much loved family heirloom.
The designers I have selected to be part of this, all have a unique ability to produce blanket patterns of high quality and with a special something to them.
1. First Born Love Blanket by The Crochet Fix
Farrah Jane is an Australian designer with a taste for Filet Crochet. I love this technique and feel when done well it can create a blanket very much deserving of the label Heirloom.
The pattern is available on ravelry and via the designers web page. Click on the photograph for the link.
2. Maeve’s Garden by Mel Harrison
I didn’t have to think twice about including this blanket in my heirloom collection. This is stunning work is by Mel Harrison. Mel seems to have an ability to create blankets that easily fit into the heirloom category. Her work is just amazing!
Mel is another Aussie designer and while I didn’t make a conscious effort to select Aussies, it just goes to show the talent that Australia has on offer. Click the photo for the link to the pattern.
Rainbow Starlight Blanket by K.A.M.E. CROCHET
This blanket by Krisztina of K.A.M.E. Crochet caught my attention right away. The use of texture in the sections worked in a plain yarn just pops. Add in that splash of colou and you have something very special. I think this would also look just as fabulous in a solid colour yarn. A masterpiece in yarn! Click the photo for the link to the pattern.
4. If I want flowers I shall have them blanket by Auburncraft Crochet design
This is my very own pattern and I would like to think it fits into this section okay. I know I enjoyed making it! Click the photograph for the link to the pattern. This can also be found here on my web page in the premium patterns section.
5. little crown baby blanket by flo’s crafty crochet
Isn’t this a beauty! Fiona Campbell of Flo’s Crafty Crochet is a designer from Northern Ireland. Her gorgeous blanket is shown in traditional white and would be a treasure to hand down through generations for sure. Click the photo for the pattern link.

Andrea Harding of Periwinkle Crochet is another of Australia’s finest designers and has used many different crochet techniques combined to create a truly wonderful blanket that will stand the test of time. 7. Fairest wheel blanket by Holland Designs
This magical geometric blanket by Lisa from Holland Designs made from octagons, triangles and squares just had to make the list. Lisa is a very talented New Zealand designer. Who wouldn’t be elated to have this handed on to them as a family heirloom! Click the photograph for the link to the pattern.
8. Ebb and flow blanket by the neave collection
I am a huge fan of The Neave Collection by Debbie Hemsley from South Africa. Her work always leaves me staring! So in saying that, I purposely added this one last as a huge finale to the Heirloom Collection. Click on the photo for the pattern link.
I hope you have enjoyed viewing these gorgeous blankets and will support the designers with their patterns. I had a lot of fun putting these together!

Yes, this one is my very own Australian design. What is not to love about it. Using just one Scheepjes Whirl or equivalent yarn, this is a unique design that makes a statement for the owner. Take the Clover Challenge by adding in just ONE, four leaf clover in amounst all those three leaf clovers for just a bit of added luck. This is a paid pattern.
4. easy peasy posy shawl by the crochet fix
I just had to add this one in as I have a very soft spot for filet work and this one is exceptional.
Farrah Jane is a fellow Aussie from South Australia and has a lovely style to her work. This can be made from one ball of most fingering weight yarns such as Scheepjes Whirl, Hobbii Twister etc, although if you choose to make the extended version you will need more. This is a paid pattern with a free version available from the designers web page.
5. winter solstice shawl by the neave collection
This gorgeous design is by Debbie Hemsley Kaltenbrunn of South Africa.
Her shawl is just a little bit special! The use of the traditional granny stitch worked in rows combined with overlay creates a dense, textured fabric which is reversible. This is a paid pattern.

8 Puff Garden Shawl by Jolie Knots
Crystal White-VanCleemput is from Jolie Knots is an Amercian Designer.
Her use of Puff Stitches in this shawl, creates a textured beauty! But then I am rather partial to a bit of either Puff Stitches or Popcorns!
