Notes:

·       Chains at the beginning of each round count as a stitch unless otherwise stated.

·       A standing double crochet can be substituted for the beginning round chains.  I find this will give a neater finish.

·       Stitch counts appear in in the brackets at the ends of rounds. Corner chains are not counted in the total stitch counts.

·       The small numbers in brackets that appear mainly at the start of rounds indicate the corresponding photograph.

Gauge:

The only relevant method to check gauge for this project is to create a gauge swatch.   Use the following rows to make your swatch:

Row 1: Ch 25. Dc into each Ch across. Turn [24]

Row 2: Ch3 (counts as a Dc).  Dc into each Ch across. Turn [24]

Rep till you have 11 Rows.

This should measure 10cm/4inches square.  If not, then adjust your hook size.

24 Stitches to 10cm/4inch

11 Rows to 10cm/4inch

The height of one Shell with 4 Dc is 1cm/.39inch

ADDING THE CROCHET TO THE BAUBLE:

Step 1:   If you wish, remove the metal cap from the top of the bauble and insert any decorations you may want inside.  I added some [17] fake flowers and some [18] small glitter stars [19] .

Step 2: [20]  Position the top piece of your work over the opening and sit the bauble centred on your base piece. [21 With a tapestry needle and yarn, begin to sew the centre point of each picot section top and bottom together. You may need to stretch the cotton slightly for the points to meet.  Work your tapestry needle back down the point of the top picot and neatly along your work to the next centre picot point.  [22] Continue this around till all centre picot points are joined. [23] Fasten off and cut yarn. I did not cut my yarn after each joining point.  I worked the thread neatly through the work to the next long join point.

FINISHING  OFF:

[24] With a needle and matching sewing thread, individually sew your beads to the centre picot of the edging at the top of the bauble.

Add a length of ribbon to the top so your bauble can hang.
