Welcome to the Apocalypse Pocket Wrap

May 21, 2023

Ever wondered what the best dressed survivors of the Apocalypse are wearing?

Well, it’s always best to be prepared! This wrap comes with pockets to store all your survival items .

Cosy and warm, with that worn out look that comes with the end of the world.

————————————————————————————

I am a huge fan of any end of world type movies or TV series, but then who doesn’t love a great zombie show!

The idea for this pocket wrap was running around in my head for some time. I pondered on how to create the larger holes and to make the edges of the pockets and hood look worn.

Once I had the design concepts figured, I then spent several months trying to find a yarn that I felt would do it justice. Bendigo Woollen Mills came to the rescue with an advertisement for their Calypso yarn. This is a thick-and-thin slub cotton plied together with a soft light wool to create a crepe style yarn and was just perfect for the design.

The pockets have been designed as part of the wrap and not sewn on.

I used a 5.5mm hook which is possibly larger than I would normally use for a Dk weight yarn, but the main stitch used in the pattern is a linked treble (US). Linked stitches do tend to produce a tighter construction and so the slightly larger hook was suitable.

Crab stitch worked across surface slip stitch is also used to add further texture and a rough or worn look. This was done in a contrasting colour,

The pattern is in written format, with pictures and detailed instructions for any special stitches.
