Dragonfly Illusion Blanket

A blend of textured stitches is used to create a mesmerizing illusion effect.

This filet crochet design is the latest design in using my signature dragonflies. Filet crochet generally refers to the use of solid blocks and spaces to create a picture or work defined by these spaces. This design incorporates this technique with the background using linked stitches and stitch clusters or Dc3tog (US terminology).

All special stitches are explained within the written pattern.

A color block graph is included and photographs provided. You can find information on color block graphs in my how-to section located on my webpage. (click here).

I used 3 ½ cakes of Alize Bella Ombre Batik. This yarn does not have an obvious color change point where it grades darker. To achieve an even color flow, I alternated balls each round without cutting. The last half ball was then used starting from the darker color and transitioning to the lighter color. If you are using Scheepjes Whirl or a similar yarn with an obvious color change point, cut the yarn at each point and work each section of colour from the other ball(s). This method does create extra ends to sew in, but the finished look is well worth the effort!

Crochet terminology: Both US and UK.
