Five Day Flower Shawl

This pattern is offered free here in US terminology, on my webpage. IF you prefer an ad free PDF copy, head to my ravelry and Etsy stores or click the buy it now button on this page.

My intention with this design, was to create a shawl that could be sized to suit, while using up stash yarn. I also wanted something that could be a fast make.

This design ticks all of the above boxes.

I have named this 'Five Day Shawl'. It can easily be created in five days by working one long row of motifs each day. I made the proto-type in four days.

I chose to use the same yarn throughout but the sky is the limit with this one.

I do recommend at least an aran weight yarn, due to the nature of the design. Chains are used in the motifs to create the petals and a yarn of less substance than aran, may not result in as good an outcome. I also recommend a roving style yarn as again this suits the makeup of the design best.

Notes:

·       This shawl is created by joining flower motifs as you go.

·       An Aran weight yarn is best for this project.  The chains need the definition of a larger weight yarn, and this will achieve the best results. A roving style yarn works brilliantly.

·       Stitch counts appear in bold.

·       Small black numbers in bold at the start of each row indicates the matching picture. Written as: [1], [2] etc.

·       When creating the petals with chain lengths, do not twist the chain.

·       Do not twist the petals when joining.

·       When working the attachment points, slst into the loop of the petal to be attached to.

·       This shawl/wrap can be made to any size. Add as many flowers as you wish.

Finished Measurements:

This is dependent upon your own preference.

Created with same amount of flower motifs used, the shawl measure: 50cm/19.6inches x 155cm/61inches.

Flowers:

Round 1: [1]Leaving a tail long enough to sew in, wrap the yarn around your pointing finger 6 times. Remove the yarn from your finger keeping the circle. [2,3] Work 12 Sc through the centre of the circle, catching all the loops of the circle.  Slst to the first Sc to close. [12 Sc]

Round 2: [4,5] [Ch12. Slst into the same St. Slst across to next]x12. [12 petals per flower]

Working the Attachment Points:

The flowers are attached as you go.  Attachment points for each flower are  shown on the schematic [6] For each petal that is to be attached. [7,8] Ch6. Slst to attachment point. Ch6. Slst into the same St as first Ch.  Slst into the next St to create the next petal.

 Sew in any ends.

Block the shawl for the best results.

How to Block:

1.     Using a clean spray bottle and water, dampen the shawl.
If you have blocking boards, lay the shawl out on them. If not find a flat clean surface to lay out. Stretch the shawl gently into the shape you want it to dry in.  Pin (if you are on a surface which allows this).

2.     Allow to dry.
