The Pastel World of Dragonflies
Well, this one has been keeping me busy!
As my followers know, dragonflies are my thing, my signature designs. My go-to when all else is boring me.
This new dragonfly design is partly structured around the old-fashioned blanket made in strips, but me being me, well, let's just say I do love to meddle!
The Pastel World of Dragonflies is now ready to burst into your yarn stash, hunt down some complementary colours and leap onto your hook.
This blanket is made up of long, thin panels with dragonflies lined up along them. I've used post stitches to create an embossed outline around the dragonflies, giving them extra texture and making them stand out from the background.
But….I can never just make something simple and leave it at that!
The panels are joined using my own Jacob's Ladder Join, and the border has a few little tricks of its own. There are small flower squares in each corner, with some rather different work in between.
I have used the unique ladders not just for joining, they also form a feature for the border.
The ladder work and joining do take a bit of patience. But, as with the tortoise and the hare, slow and steady wins the race. The end result is something a little different, and that's exactly what I was after.
It looks fairly innocent sitting there in its pretty pastels, but there's a bit more to it than meets the eye! It isn't necessarily difficult, but you do need to pace yourself.
I've also come up with a final edging using a combination of stitches to create a picot finish. It's another little detail that brings the whole thing together.
I've even gone to the enormous effort to made some short videos for this one to help with the joining, the ladder loops and the finishing edge. So, if you're wondering how some of those bits come together, I've got you covered.
