So there I was, playing with a skein of Fiddlesticks Posie and not really knowing where the hook was heading. The end result became ‘Veil of Avelisse’.
This is a wonderfully versatile pattern. I ended up making several versions while honing the design, and the very first — in a gorgeous purple — has now been framed and proudly adorns a spot in my sitting room.
I was very brave and actually purchased a couple of skeins of Fiddlesticks in a greeennnnnnnnnn and a red. Green and I don’t generally get along all that well, so it’s always a challenge for me to work with. I continually look at what I’m creating and wonder why on earth I’m working in green. But I wanted to create a Christmas table runner, and green is kind of a necessity… so, as I say, I was very brave and soldiered on. I even made a table placemat from the greeennnnnnnnnn.
This design can be a tablecloth, doily, table runner, table centre, or even a framed focal piece. One of my pattern testers even modelled it as a scarf!
The pattern includes fully written instructions in both UK and US terminology, a symbol graph, and helpful progress photos. It can be made as a stand-alone doily, and instructions for joining motifs — as well as how I framed mine — are included. The choice is yours.
‘Veil of Avelisse’ will be available on Ravelry and Etsy. There’s still time to make something beautiful for your Christmas table, or even whip up a last-minute framed gift that looks wonderfully thoughtful. I hope you enjoy bringing this delicate design to life as much as I enjoyed creating it..
