For the card enthusiasts!
This blanket has been making its way through the design and testing process for a good part of 2026 — and, like any good card game, there have been a few twists and turns along the way.

Play Your Cards Right is a larger-style blanket featuring the card suits throughout the design, along with my own original Front Post Treble, Back Post Treble 2 Together stitch.
This stitch creates a beautifully embossed, textured effect that appears on both sides of the blanket, making the finished piece fully reversible. For this particular design, the lettering along the edge is naturally mirrored on the reverse side, giving both sides their own slightly different look.
The written pattern is worked in a single colour, as shown in the main sample. However, my pattern testers decided to play their cards a little differently and introduced their own colour combinations — and I have to admit, they took the design to another level!
I have included a separate PDF with the pattern download showing the yarns and colours used by the testers, along with the basic information they provided about how they approached their colour changes. This is intended as inspiration rather than a colour-change guide, so you can take the design in your own direction if you decide to play with colour.
This is a wonderfully satisfying blanket to create, with plenty of texture to keep things interesting as the design develops. The finished result is a substantial, tactile piece that would make a beautiful heirloom blanket — one to keep, treasure and perhaps eventually argue over when the family decides who gets it!
