Do You Read the Quote?
I've developed a bit of a habit when designing my crochet patterns. Before the stitches, the instructions, the charts and all the other important bits, I like to add a quote.
Sometimes it's a well-known saying, sometimes it's something I've come across and feel suits the design, but quite often I actually write them myself.
They might be a little thought, a bit of humour, something reflective, or simply a line that I feel captures the mood of the design. I suppose it's another little creative outlet that has crept into my pattern writing.
But it has made me wonder... how many people actually read them?
Do you look at the heading and then read the quote, or do you skip straight to the materials and get on with the important business of finding your crochet hook?
I'm curious whether anyone has a favourite, or whether you've ever stopped to think about the words at the top of one of my patterns.
After all, there's usually a reason they're there. Sometimes there's a little more to them than meets the eye.
Each quote is carefully thought out to complement the design. Occasionally, it's the other way around, and a design begins with an idea, a thought or even a particular quote that sparks the whole creative process.
I like to think these little additions give my patterns something extra. I hope they catch your attention, perhaps make you smile or think for a moment, and maybe even leave you wondering what quote will appear on the next design.
Because I want my pattern makers to see that there's more to each design than just a set of instructions on a page. There's thought, creativity and a whole lot of planning behind every piece. And, just occasionally, a few words that I felt needed to be there too.
Have a favourite quote, or an idea that you think would suit one of my future designs? Leave it in the comments below. I'm always on the lookout for a little inspiration!
And a final thought!
