Blood of My Blood Skull Scarf

October 12, 2025

🩸 Blood of My Blood Skull Scarf 🩸

With Halloween just around the corner, Blood of My Blood has just the right amount of spooky — with a little gothic flair thrown in for good measure!

How did this scarf come to life?

For those who follow my designs, you may have seen When a Dragonfly Whispers Scarf. Often when I create a design, the ideas start to morph, and my brain begins thinking of other ways to transform that concept into something new.

This time, there were whispers… but they came drifting across the ocean — all the way from Northern Ireland to the land of Oz.

What were they whispering?
“Go on, add some skulls.”

At first, I thought I was going slightly crazy (or at least a little crazier than usual). The whispers were very persistent! Eventually, I discovered their source — my crochet designer friend in Northern Ireland, the wonderful Fiona of Floscraftycrochet, wanted skulls.

So, I obliged. I took the concept from When a Dragonfly Whispers and gave it a darker twist to create Blood of My Blood Skull Scarf.

The Blood of My Blood Skull Scarf is my venture into the darker side of crochet — a little gothic, a little graceful, and entirely me. Each skull sits perfectly framed within a series of stepped stitches.

This design does take a little concentration, as the stitches may seem randomly placed, with no rhyme or reason. But together, they form a delicate spiderweb of lace around each skull — and it simply works! 🕸️

☠️ What’s Inside the Pattern

  • Fully written instructions (no guesswork, just hookwork)

  • A symbol-style graph showing a reduced section of the scarf

  • A repeatable pattern to keep you in the flow as it grows

You’ll Need:

  • 2 x Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton DK (Colour: 3701)

  • Approx. 260m / 284.3yds total

  • Stitch markers, tapestry needle, and scissors

Finished Size:

  • Width: 15 cm (5.9 in)

  • Length: 213 cm (83.8 in)

It’s a fast, satisfying make — with plenty of time to finish one, two, or even more before Halloween. 🎃

If skulls aren’t your thing, you might prefer the softer touch of When a Dragonfly Whispers Scarf.
