I have a lot of thoughts rolling around in my head. Stella (CEO Cocker Spaniel) assures me there is plenty of room in there for many more. I don't think she means it as a compliment.
Ideas have a habit of appearing at inconvenient times. I can be trying to sleep, in the middle of a tough pump workout, or busy doing something entirely unrelated to crochet when a thought suddenly arrives. Before I know it, that tiny idea has grown into a new design concept waiting patiently in the queue for me to find the time to explore it.
Of course, not every idea behaves itself.
Sometimes things go a little astray. Not exactly wrong, just... different to what was originally planned. A stitch count might wander off on its own adventure. A shaping idea might decide it doesn't want to cooperate. Occasionally I find myself staring at a project wondering, "What on earth am I going to do with this?"
Then comes the magical part.
A slight detour becomes an interesting feature. A mistake becomes a design element. An oversight becomes a statement piece. What began as a little boo-boo somehow transforms itself into what I prefer to call design genius.
I am, after all, a genius in my own headspace.
Even Stella tells me so.
Usually when she wants a treat.
The truth is that some of my favourite design details have emerged because I forgot to factor something into the original plan and had to head off in a completely different direction. Those unexpected moments often create features that I never would have intentionally designed in the first place.
Naturally, we shall not be discussing these little incidents with anyone else.
If anybody asks, every single stitch was carefully planned from the beginning. Of course I meant to do that. I am simply that good.
Stella knows the truth, unfortunately.
I would ask her to keep quiet, but for a sufficiently large bribe involving cheese or bacon, she would probably sell my secrets without hesitation.
So if you ever find yourself admiring a particularly clever detail in one of my designs, rest assured it was entirely intentional. Probably. Stella may disagree.

Have you ever made a mistake in a crochet project that turned out to be better than the original plan? Or am I the only one claiming accidental brilliance as a design strategy?
