Ripple Kiss Lock Purse Crochet Pattern
Coins could possibly be becoming a thing of the past. Maybe… but with that statement also comes the knowledge that the bottom of my handbag invariably contains enough coins to make it necessary for the local mint to create more.
I can already see the headlines. Local Redhead Hoards Coins, Creating Need for Mint to Work Overtime. Then again, newspapers seem to be becoming a thing of the past too, so perhaps it would be a digital headline instead.
I will admit that my handbag was modelled on the Dr Who TARDIS. Enter if you dare kind of thing.
The only upside to having an involuntary coin collection within my handbag is the extra workout one gets from lugging all that weight around. Finding the coin one needs at the right time is, however, more of a journey. One is much more likely to find a screwdriver (yeah, there was a reason for that being in my bag) than the coin actually being searched for.
So what should a responsible person/adult/hooman bean/crochet designer do about this? Design a coin purse, of course.
That way those elusive coins are easy to find and, on the rare occasion you actually need them, they are right there and ready to go.
Me being me, I wanted this purse to be a little different in an odd sort of way.
I have been playing around with herringbone stitch quite a bit lately, so it was my go-to choice for this design. While experimenting with colour changes, I discovered I could create this unique ripple effect that wraps beautifully around the purse. The result is the Raspberry Ripple Kiss Lock Purse, a fun combination of texture and colourwork.
I used a smaller hook with the Alize Diva Silky fingering yarn to keep those stitches nice and tight. Truth be told, I really could not be bothered lining my purse. Those who use the pattern can absolutely add a lining if they wish, but the dense herringbone stitches mean you really do not have to.
I enjoyed designing this pattern so much that I am already working on additional designs using the same style of colourwork. It is one of those techniques that keeps sparking new ideas.
For now, you can find the Raspberry Ripple Kiss Lock Purse pattern in my Etsy and Ravelry stores. You can also read more about yarn requirements, materials, and finished measurements on the dedicated pattern information page on my website.
P.S. This design uses a curved 5-inch kiss lock frame. It is large enough to hold a LOT of coins, yet small enough to tuck neatly into your handbag. I may even make another one to use as a makeup purse. The uses are endless. In fact, now that I think about it, I probably need more than one.
I may get an early start on Christmas gifts. Everyone gets a Raspberry Ripple coin purse.
Let me know in the comments if you are a coin hoarder too!
A short video on attaching the frame is available on my Youtube.
