I first designed the Dragonflies on My Mind Headwarmer, and it seems I still have dragonflies on my mind, because now we have the Dragonflies on My Mind Bandana.
I originally designed this little bandana a few months ago when the Australian Crochet Guild asked me to create a design for their convention brochure. The convention has now come and gone, which means I can finally release this pattern to the wider crochet community.
This one-size bandana features my signature dragonfly motif and is worked in rows before the ties are added as a finishing touch. It is a quick and enjoyable project that can be dressed up or down depending on your choice of yarn and colour.
Why do I keep creating dragonfly designs? There are several reasons.
Firstly, I simply like dragonflies. They are elegant, delicate creatures that translate beautifully into crochet.
Secondly, people keep asking me for more dragonfly designs. Over the years they have become something of a signature feature in my patterns, and I am always delighted when crocheters ask for another dragonfly project.
Dragonflies are also often associated with good luck, prosperity, change, and harmony with nature. Those are lovely sentiments to weave into a handmade project.
And finally, they are just fun to make. Watching the dragonflies form is enjoyable crochet and create a design that looks beautiful when worn.
For my sample, I used Alize Diva Silky, but any sport-weight or fingering-weight yarn with good stitch definition will work well. Cotton, cotton blends, or mercerised acrylics are all excellent choices.
At this point, I have accepted that dragonflies are likely to keep fluttering through my crochet designs. Thankfully, they seem to be just as popular with my customers as they are with me.
