Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2025 is Mocha Mousse, a warm brown that’s been described as “comforting” and “timeless.” Sure, it’s earthy and neutral, but really, it’s brown. Like cup-of-coffee brown, or last-biscuit-in-the-tin brown. The kind no one’s excited about but still eats. They’re calling it grounding, but some might call it… safe? And I guess, when it comes right down to it, dirt is sort of brown, so they could be right.
To be fair, I do love me some nice autumnal tones, and Mocha Mousse does have its perks. It’s versatile—it goes well with creams, looks great with orange tones, and even—choke, splutter—the dreaded greens. According to Google, it’s also trending in the sustainability world, which is very on-brand for 2025.
So, what’s the verdict on it? Mocha Mousse may not be the worlds most exciting of colours and certainly not as amazing as Pantone Colour of the Year 2023, Viva Magenta, but I guess I can live with it. It’s not GREEN, and that is always a good thing!
I’m heading straight for the yarn stash to grab all the browns I can find. In 2025 I shall be a Style Maven. What’s that you ask?
